Tesoro dei pirati :Scoperte nell’oceano le navi di Sam Bellamy e Blackbeard
Le navi dei pirati Sam Bellamy e Blackbeard sono tornate in vita con tutti i loro tesori, dopo essere rimaste per quasi tre secoli nascoste nella acque dell’Oceano Atlantico, a poca distanza dalle coste del North Carolina. La loro scoperta è stata il frutto di un lungo e paziente lavoro di ricerca, ma per Barry Clifford è stata anche la realizzazione di un sogno.
A lui si deve infatti la scoperta della Whydah, l’ammiraglia di “Black” Sam Bellamy, finora l’unica nave affondata a esser stata riconosciuta come una vera nave pirata. Quando era piccolo, Barry si era sentito spesso raccontare dallo zio Ben la storia della Whydah, che giaceva sul fondo del mare con ancora tutti i suoi tesori. Clifford è cresciuto col sogno di ritrovarla e ci è riuscito tra mille difficoltà.
Forse non è stata la stessa cosa per Phil Masters, ma comunque è a lui che va riconosciuto il merito di aver individuato i resti della Queen Anne’s Revenge, la nave di Blackbeard, il più famoso dei pirati del North Carolina. Il resoconto di questi recenti ritrovamenti è visibile in due siti dedicati mentre una sintesi precisa e accurata è stata pubblicata online da Discovery Channel.
Oltre alla storia delle due navi (come nacque il loro nome e perché naufragarono) e alla descrizione delle incredibili imprese dei loro comandanti, si possono ammirare le foto di quanto è stato finora portato a galla: monete, piatti, armi, cannoni, chiodi, spilli, munizioni, rotelle per affilare le spade e le lame, strumenti per la navigazione, bottoni ma soprattutto monili. I pirati erano infatti soliti appropriarsene anche quando non requisivano una nave.
Tesoro dei pirati
Le cronache raccontano che quando la Whydah affondò aveva un carico di avorio, indaco, zucchero, lingotti d’oro e migliaia di monete spagnole oltre a 5 tonnellate di oro e argento.
La maggior parte di questi oggetti oggi è esposta nei musei locali di Beaufort (Museo Marittimo del North Carolina) e Cape Cod (Museo Whydah). Chi desidera ammirare i manufatti di persona o vederli online deve però sapere che quanto è stato finora trovato costituisce solo una parte delle ricchezze che queste navi trasportavano perché, a detta degli stessi ricercatori, i tesori di “Black” Sam Bellamy e di Blackbeard sono ancora dell’oceano.
